[Part1]-Making of citrus bioenzyme and answers to common bio-enzyme queries

Hello all-Today I would like to write about bio-enzymes!You can find tonnes and tonnes of posts about bio-enzymes in social handles. In this post of mine,I would like to  share my personal experience of using it.I have been making bio-enzyme for two years now and I have also been sharing bits and pieces of information about bio-enzymes in my handles.I wanted to collate all of it together and present it as posts here!

I am neither an expert nor someone who did extensive research on this topic.I am writing this posts based on my personal experience and so please excuse my flaws if any.

To make bio-enzyme,we must first know what is a bio-enzyme.Let us dig deeper about it below.

Bio-enzyme:

Bio-enzyme is the end product ,when fruits peels are naturally subjected to chemical reaction and they are acted upon by fungus..The complex particles are broken down and gases gets released in the process. Here I am sharing only about CITRUS bio-enzyme as there are other enzymes as well.

1.How to make bio-enzyme?

Take 1 part of jaggrey,3 parts of citrus peel and 10 parts of water..In an air tight plastic bottle add jaggery and water..Dissolve the Jaggery and then add citrus peel and close the plastic bottle and leave it for 90 days for the bio-enzyme to be ready.

2.Why plastic bottle? Why not other types of containers?

As said, during the process of chemical reaction, lots of gasses gets released and so it is essential to go only with plastic bottle.I have started re-using my plastic bottles this way!

3.How long should I leave the bottle?

Your bio-enzyme should be ready in 90 days.

4.Should I leave it in room temperature?

Do not keep it in sunlight.Keep it in a  place where there is no sunlight.

5.Should I leave it untouched for 90 days?

For the first month open the bottle and close it every day so that gases gets released.

For the second month, just open and release the gas, say once in two or three days.

For the third month, just open and close the bottle once in a week.

6.Will jaggery not attract ants?

Tried and tested. Jaggery quantity is very small and it will never attract ants

7.What is the shelf life of bio-enzyme?

There is no expiry date for bio-enzyme.

8.After 90 days can I just use it as is?

Post 90 days filter the liquid. The clear liquid can be used for  normal cleaning. The peels can be run through the mixie and can be used for heavy duty cleaning or you can use the peels in your next batch and can speed the next batch in a month or so.

9.Can I use dried peels?

Fresh peels are preferred,In case you want to start with good amount then you can refrigerate the peels and use accordingly.

10.What fruit's peel has to be used for bio-enzyme?

You can use orange peel, mosambi peel, lemon peel or pineapple peels for making citrus bio-enzymes.

11.Is the white fungus on the top of enzyme a good sign?

It is very good to see white foams of fungus on top of bio-enzyme.It is natural to see fungus during the chemical reaction and so do not discard it.

12.Can yeast be used in making bio-enzyme?

Yes yeast is used to speed up the process and make bio-enzyme within a month but I have not used it and so do not have any information to share about it.

13.Say I started making bio-enzyme,In the interim,I got some more peels. So can I add just the peel alone?

When you add extra peel then always add proportionate jaggery and water. If you are adding anything extra then the clock of day1 starts only from there and you have to wait for 90 days from there on!

14.Should the contents of bio-enzyme be till the brim of the container?

No the contents should be only till the 80% of the container's capacity so that you have enough extra space for the gases to get released easily.

PS:I have tried answering some of the common questions. In case,if you have any further queries, please feel free to add in the comments section. If I know the answer  then I will definitely try to answer the same.

PSS:In my next post,I will show my currently harvested bio-enzyme and how I am using it as a naturnal cleaner!

Till I meet you all in my next post, take care and happy making of the bio-enzyme!
